EXTENDED PROJECT QUALIFICATION
For Year 12 and 13 students working towards an Extended Project Qualification, I offer a calm, supportive space in which they can develop the practical aspect of their design project, learn new skills, and explore their creative ideas with confidence.
Whether a student is planning to create a silver clay jewellery collection (under my tuition), experiment with materials and textures, or gather practical research to support a written investigation, this dedicated EPQ pathway provides structured guidance without stepping into the work they must complete independently.
Students will be introduced to the techniques they need to bring their ideas to life, and then encouraged to direct their own project in line with EPQ requirements. They will have access to tools, materials, and expert guidance, while still retaining full ownership of their design decisions and project outcomes.
Each EPQ student will:
Learn the core skills required for working confidently with silver metal clay
Develop their own designs and prototypes at their own pace
Explore textures, forms, and embellishments that support their project theme
Document their process through notes and photographs (helpful for their Production Log)
Receive general support and technical advice from the tutor, Rachel, without compromising the independence required for EPQ assessment
Students will design and create their own bespoke collection of 5-6 pieces of fine silver jewellery. All materials required to design and make a collection of jewellery are included, with additional silver clay available to purchase if required. The course consists of five weekly sessions which are each three hours long.
This pathway works well for students who are working towards the product based/artefact EPQ and wish to:
Design and create a jewellery collection
Compare materials or techniques for their written report
Explore the sustainability, history or design potential of silver clay
While students must complete their written report and final presentation independently, the practical work they complete here can form a major part of their evidence.
I am a qualified instructor and have an enhanced DBS and experience of working with young people in both creative and educational settings. The studio is run with clear health and safety guidance, and parents or guardians of students under the age of 18 will be asked to complete the relevant permission forms before the course begins.
Students who wish to use their EPQ work as part of a creative portfolio for college or university applications may also request a reference on completion of the course.
If you or young person is considering a practical or design-based EPQ, or would simply like to explore whether silver clay might be a good fit for their project, you’re welcome to get in touch to discuss the options.
